I GO: Ballet at Vienna Staatsoper

One of Vienna's most famous landmarks is the Staatsoper, which houses the Vienna State Opera. So when my Austrian friend C told me about the amazing standing ticket deals, I leaped at the chance to watch a ballet in the Staatsoper. Though the standing section was at the very back of the highest level, the €3 price tag and chance to see the talented company of Vienna State Ballet was well worth it. Not to mention, I finally got to try out some opera glasses!

I GO: Basking in Extravagance (Churches of Vienna)

If the title of this post is a tad ostentatious, it's fitting. Two of Vienna's most famous (and lavish) churches are within a stone's throw of each other- St. Peter's Church and St. Stephen's Cathedral. The first is a Baroque work, its interior a patchwork of colored marble and gold. And the second is a Gothic Romanesque cathedral, covered in sculptural ornamentation and stuffed with Baroque trappings.

In my personal opinion, St. Peter's Church is much more fun to walk through. If you can manage to look past the gaudiness, the level of detail in the craftsmanship is astounding. And because I'm a huge fan of church-hopping, as you already know from this post from Paris, here's a parallel post filled with nothing but images of the two aforementioned masterpieces.

I WEAR: Pastels in the Land of Marble

First outfit post from Vienna! It seems pastels are everywhere right now, and my wardrobe is no exception. I'm rather picky when it comes to colored denim, usually sticking to darker colors. But these light purple jeans are such a lovely color I couldn't resist. Added bonus: I think the pastel shade looks even more precious against all of Vienna's marble landmarks.

I EAT: Sacher-Torte at Cafe Sacher

One of the things on my Vienna "to-do" list was to head straight for a slice of Sacher-Torte at the Cafe Sacher, the recipe's birthplace. To say that I have a sweet tooth would be the understatement of the century, but I love how Sacher-Torte isn't as overwhelmingly sugary as most chocolate cakes. The cake is divided by a thin layer of apricot jam and coated with dark chocolate icing. And, like seemingly everything else in Vienna, it's served with a massive dollop of whipped cream.

Which brings me to a brief side rant. I can't rave enough about the whipped cream in Wien. Thick, not-too-sweet, and always delivered in large quantities. A well worth-it guilty pleasure. Enjoy the pictures after the jump!

I GO: Vienna Photoreel

As I told you guys a few posts ago, I recently spent a weekend in Vienna. It was my first time visiting the city! With 23 districts, it's impossible to see everything in such a short time frame, but the parts I did see (mostly the first district) were beautiful.

Walking around Vienna was like walking around a museum. The city is studded with amazing works of public art- iconic architecture and sculptural masterpieces abound. Needless to say, I took about a gazillion pictures and will thus have to dedicate the next posts to sharing a few of them. Enjoy the first general Vienna photoreel after the jump!

I THINK: Shop Estherina's Closet

Here's the thing. I have way too much stuff. So in a bid to free up some closet (and walking) space, I've started selling some items on eBay. If you'd like to check it out, you may do so by CLICKING ON THIS LINK or by clicking on "Shop Estherina's World" just underneath the header.

Next post will be on my trip to Vienna, promise. :)

I EAT: Meat Liquor (Best Burger Joint in Town)

To ring in my friend Tim's 21st birthday, we headed over to Meat Liquor, rumored home of the best burgers in London. Granted I haven't been to every burger joint in town, now that I've been to Meat Liquor, I believe them to be true. The "Disneyland in summertime" line outside the door was more than a little daunting, but if a 1.5 hour wait has you thinking the food isn't justification enough, stay for Meat Liquor's wonderfully gritty decor. I'm a fan of the uber retro American diner, but there's something refreshingly raw about chomping your way towards a triple bypass sans proper dishware and whilst awash in red lighting. Graffiti artist ex-squatter den chic.

I WEAR: Citrus Brights

These boots have become my winter staple. Just the right amount of chunky heel to make my 5-foot self feel comfortable whilst being actually comfortable to walk around in. I got tired of shooting in all the same places, so I finally braved the cold in search of prettier backdrops. Found an amazing spot right on the bank of the Thames. Literally.

One last note: I am going to Vienna for the weekend! So enjoy the photos after the jump, have a good weekend, and I can't wait to tell you all about my first trip to Austria.

I EAT: Borough Market

One of the greatest things about living this side of the Thames is that I get to be within a brisk winter day's walk of Borough Market. If you've read this previous post, you know I'm a big fan of food markets. I'm what I like to call an eye eater- too greedy to order just one dish with too small an appetite to finish everything off. That's why Borough Market, with its plethora of food vendors and not-too-large portions, is perfect. One second I can be sipping on mulled apple cider, the next munching on the world's ooziest grilled cheese, and immediately after nibbling on Turkish delights. Perfect meal. And if there's still room left over, there are more than enough free samples from produce and specialty vendors to top you up.

Enjoy this photoreel from my most recent visit!

I WEAR: Dexter's Laboratory

Since the last two posts were essentially glorified admin notifications, I'll save you all the normal hefty text and skip straight to the outfit pictures. Finally went to the Westfield in Stratford City, because this winter chill had me shuddering at the thought of shopping outdoors. Came back with three new pairs of shoes. Here comes pair number 1. Like em?

I THINK: My Brand Spanking New Map Index

As this blog is very much my baby, I find I'm constantly finding new modifications to make to it. The newest one? The map index you see below in this post and linked in the top bar.

To save you all the trouble of having to sift through my archives in order to locate particular posts, I thought I'd arrange them all using a geographical index. From here on out, you'll be able to find posts from particular cities simply by clicking on the corresponding icons. Happy reading!

I EAT: Breakfast at Queen of Tarts

We're at the last post from my weekend in Dublin! On my last day in Dublin, I ate breakfast at the cutest little patisserie, Queen of Tarts. I'm a huge dessert buff, so the idea of eating way too many sweets before noon had me predisposed to love the place. But that aside, the Queen of Tarts should be on everyone's Dublin must-go list. The decor was quaint, the service prompt, and the food absolutely scrumptious.

Captions included for all dishes. Enjoy the pictures after the jump!

I GO: Cathedral-ing in Dublin

And we're at another Dublin photoreel. What did I tell you? I went overboard snapping pictures in Dublin this weekend. If you haven't checked out the first two photoreels, do so here and here. These were taken at Christ Church Cathedral, its crypts, and St. Patrick's Cathedral.

Enjoy the pictures after the jump! And if you're wondering what book I'm flipping through in the first picture, it's a centuries-old bible. Yea, no big deal.

I GO: Dublin Drinking (Duh!)

As far as lightweights go, I think I take the cake. But no visit to Dublin would be complete without paying due attention to two special beverages: Guinness stout and Jameson whisky. Since, for the most part, my camera remained safely put away during the Temple Bar district pub crawl, here you have my photoreel from the Guinness Storehouse and old Jameson distillery. In my personal opinion, while both are worth the obligatory one-time visit, the former is a somewhat lackluster tourist trap while the latter is actually quite informational. If you do head over to the old Jameson distillery, get the most bang for your bucks and make sure to volunteer to participate in the post-tour whiskey tasting.

I GO: Fáilte go mBaile Átha Cliath (First Dublin Photoreel)

In case you don't read Irish, the title of this post means "Welcome to Dublin", so I suppose it should be pretty straightforward what this post is going to cover. As mentioned in my previous post, I spent the weekend in Dublin. This was my first visit to the city and to Ireland in general, and I have to say it lived up to all my expectations. Ever since watching "P.S. I Love You", I'd been itching to visit. Stereotypical, I know. But true to the movie, I did stumble into an unusually high number of friendly locals (a rare breed in most cities) and chance upon a pub wherein the live musicians were playing "Galway Girl". Take that as you will.

Given the sheer volume of pictures I have from this weekend, I decided to span my weekend over a handful of posts. This post mostly contains pictures from my visit to St. Stephen's Green and strolling around Dublin in chase of landmarks associated with the city's former literary giants. Enjoy the pictures after the jump!

I WEAR: School Girl Crush

In the last post I showed you all my new satchel. Here for you now is the outfit I wore when I took it out for its maiden voyage. Before you ask, no, I wasn't crazy enough to wear this outfit out for longer than 10 minutes during this bitter London weather. But for pictures' sake, I shot it without tights and with heels first. Blogger syndrome, I suppose.

In other news, I'm heading to Dublin for the weekend tomorrow. Can't wait to share my travel adventures there with you all. :)

I WEAR: New Cambridge Satchel (Ad Infinitum)

Guess what came in the mail yesterday? Well, I guess the post title gives it away. There's something so wonderfully academic about satchels. Like I should be slinging one over my shoulder dressed in a tweed blazer and walking a thin-frame bicycle. But then again, I don't know how to ride a bicycle and have no desire to learn. So I guess I'll just have to think of some other outfit to pair this lovely new addition to my wardrobe with.

If you're wondering, the color (which was incredibly hard to capture, apparently), is a deep blue that almost looks black. The inscription? Ad infinitum = To infinity.

Enjoy the pictures after the jump!
